"Black Mask 2: City of Masks" is a sequel to the 1999 martial arts film "Black Mask" which starred Jet Li and was about a Shanghai super hero named Black Mask. Featuring lots of very physical action sequences, the sequel is unusual in part because it is one of the few super hero franchises not to take place in the United States. Andy On now stars as Black Mask as he works to prevent a group that intends to set off a DNA bomb that would turn the metro area's population into monstrous mutated beasts. The group behind this nasty scheme includes four professional wrestlers who have the ability to turn into hybrid beast/human forms, such as Chameleon's ability to shapeshift. Black Mask's love interest, played in the first film by Francoise Yip (Romeo Must Die, Rumble in the Bronx), does not make the new picture, apparently because Black Mask is now too busy fighting crime. Production on "Black Mask 2" started in late 2000 and wrapped in January 2001.
